Why was Clement Attlee elected Prime Minister of the U.K. following World War Two?

I'm doing an essay on the causes of the Cold War and am having difficult understanding why it is that in the wake of World War Two Winston Churchill was not re-elected Prime Minister of England following World War Two. He had predicted World War Two before it happened, ably led Britain through the war, and had the experience of a full term under his belt. Why, with all of these things considered, would the British vote in Attlee in favor the apparently better qualified Churchill?
